G'day folks, I'm brand new to the group and live in Adelaide. I've always loved small vehicles, things like Lotus 7's and Morgan 3 wheelers, so am looking forward to building my own little beast. Currently rebuilding a 90's Open 125 Superkart but it will be too expensive to race so plan to sell it after getting it track ready and log booked.
A couple of questions. Who else is in Adelaide and where do you meet up and drive your cars ?

Hi Rod.

Welcome :)

I'm Adelaide based. (Mile End)

Have a couple of mates in the UK that race vintage karts, can be an expensive hobby.

Not sure on a meet location yet as I'm not aware of any others locally. Been trying to drum up some local interest for some years but I think you're the first to post here. (I don't do FB any more)

I always had my eye on Victoria Park Street circuit for a GP style event as the track can be hired from the council. Unfortunately it was host to the Covid testing station for a few years but that's now gone. I think it is now open again as I saw some pedal-prix cars there the other day. Maybe with a bit of interest and a few participants a GP race could be a possibility in the future, but it would need some numbers to be viable.

As far as a monthly meet is concerned, I never organised anything as there was only me and I lost a bit of interest. My build has not progressed for a while as life has kinda got in the way. I guess I'm about half way through...

Thanks Mick.

Wow, you've taken on a very detailed build there. looking great so far. Obviously quite skilled too. I'll be going a far more simple design route as i don't have ready access to lathes or mills, very frustrating for an ex fitter machinist, plus I like to build things quickly and play.
I was talking to a work mate a few years ago about getting a billykart derby happening out here in the north east but nothing happened as usual. I agree Vic park would be a good place to showcase if the numbers were there. It's tough building awareness for things when it's not a mainstream sport or interest.
I do Dragonboat racing for sport and am part of the recruiting and fundraising crew so we're trying to find new members and sponsors so understand how hard it can be. I'm also working on starting a podcast about all the fringe sports, with the aim of raising profiles and participation. Hopefully it goes well.
Hopefully your health picks up and the build can crack on.
